Resurrection Sunday: The Coronation of Jesus as the True King

Written by Jason Szesze | Apr 9, 2023 10:00:00 AM

Today is Resurrection Sunday, a day celebrated by Christians around the world as the day Jesus Christ was raised from the dead. It is a day of joy and hope, marking the triumph of life over death and the beginning of a new era.

The Victory of Life Over Death

After being executed on the cross as a threat to Roman and Jewish power, Jesus was laid in his grave for two full nights. For two full nights, his disciples, followers, and family wept. For two full nights, the schemes of Rome, corrupt religion, and darkness seemed to have won...until there was an earthquake. An angel dressed in white appeared, rolled back the stone covering Jesus' tomb, and scared the guards away (Matthew 28:2-3). At sunrise, a group of women approached Jesus' tomb to embalm his body, but they found the tomb open and an angel inside who told them the good news: Jesus had risen from the dead (Mark 16:4-6).

The Enthronement of Jesus as the True King

Resurrection Sunday is not just about the resurrection of Jesus, but about his coronation and enthronement as the true King of the world. During Holy Week, Jesus challenged the power structures of his time, proclaimed a New Covenant with God, and was killed as the "King of the Jews." But on Resurrection Sunday, he rose from the dead, defeating death and establishing his reign over all other nations, powers, and rulers. He is the King of life and death, just as he claimed to be.

Action Item:

  1. Accepting Jesus as the True King

On this Resurrection Sunday, let us accept the good news that Jesus Christ is the world's only resurrected King. Let us acknowledge his reign over our lives and commit to following him as our Lord and Savior. May we also share this good news with others, just as the women at the tomb were instructed to do. We can share the good news through our words and our actions, showing others the love and grace of Christ.

Resurrection Sunday is a day of joy and hope, celebrating the victory of life over death and the coronation of Jesus Christ as the true King of the world. As we reflect on the significance of this day, may we accept Jesus as our Lord and Savior, and share this good news with others. Let us live our lives in service to the King of Kings and Lord of Lords, knowing that his reign is eternal and his love is never-ending.
